Disability Access Company - M pack
The new Disability Access Company British Standard toilet pack
has been designed in response to the new British Standard BS8300
& Part M, which was introduced in October 2001, to provide guidance
on good practice in the design of domestic and non-domestic buildings
to meet the needs of disabled people.
The Disability Access Company British Standard pack includes a
number of new features. One of the many innovative products of the
pack is the colostomy-changing shelf, manufactured from hard wearing,
easy to clean acrylic capped ABS, with a sturdy stainless steel
frame. There is also a second, general purpose shelf, built to
the same specifications.
In accordance with BS8300, the basin tap is situated to the side
nearest the toilet. This enables the disabled user to wash their
hands more easily whilst still seated on the WC.
The handy design also provides a facility to clean a urine bottle,
if necessary, as the position of the tap allows for the bottle to
be placed lengthways within the basin, which is impossible where
there is a central tap hole.
The basin design incorporates two tap
holes as standard, to enable the hole nearest the toilet to be utilised,
depending on the compartment layout, whilst the other hole can be
blanked off.
Also included is an alarm pull cord, which is situated between
the toilet and the washbasin and should reach down to 100mm above
floor level.
This makes it accessible should someone have a fall
and be unable to get up without assistance.
- Room 200mm longer - now 1500 x 2200mm
- Additional vertical grab rail at side of wash basin
- Height of pan changed to 480mm to top of seat (In 'Doc M' of
Building Regulations this was 450mm to 475mm)
- Two shelves now required, one must be used as a colostomy shelf
- Wash basin should be handed, with tap nearest to the toilet
pan
- Wash basin now 720mm to 740mm above the floor (This used to
be 750mm in 'Doc M')
- Advice now given on the positioning of accessories and alarm
- Colostomy shelf includes a drainage hole, easily unclipped for
cleaning and sterilisation.
